Abstract
Organizations are awash in people data, yet a surprising number do little to make sense of the patterns, extract insights from the data, or take action on the results. The growing “People Analytics” field intends to change this by infusing organizational scholarship and research methods into HR management, and conducting internal research with the goal of ensuring HR is conducted in as rigorous and innovative a way as any other job function (e.g., product management, software development) – or more so! Carrie Ott-Holland from Google’s People Analytics group will provide an overview of Google’s approach to people analytics and the growth of the people analytics field, and discuss real-life examples to illustrate what difference some data (Big or small) can make for employee programs and practices, and what opportunities this lens on HR opens up for scholars and practitioners alike.
